My Bible reading plan for 2026
For 2026 I’m going to continue reading through the Bible with my modified Dr. Grant Horner Bible plan. I absolutely LOVE this system. It is extremely flexible, if you modify it as I have, and it is amazing how often what I’m reading in one chapter echos or is further defined in another.
This year, however, I’m switching from my regular take-to-church Bible (NASB) and reading the lists from my very first Bible, a 1985 NIV. At the first of the year I moved all my bookmarks to the NIV and just kept on reading where I left off.

My NASB Bible isn’t a study Bible, so it has been fun to read some of the study notes with this Bible too.

When I read, I shoot for getting through five chapters a day. Some days I only get through one or two, which is perfectly fine. I keep track of where I am with a small field notes notebook. You can see below that I read five chapters on December 27th, two on the 28th, and three on the 29th.

Sometimes I write a verse that stands out to me, or a real short summary of what I read. I mark off a side margin to add my thoughts or extra notes. (I just bought one of those cool date stamps. For some reason it just makes me happy to date stamp things!)

This has been an incredible way to read the Bible, and switching the system up to a different translation has been a nice change. I love this plan so much and will be sticking with it for years! After I fill this notebook (in about two weeks), I’ll spend a couple days flipping through it and noting what stood out and see if there are any themes. It was so fun to do that with my previous one!

Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing more of my focus areas/goals for 2026. I’d love to hear what your plans are for Bible reading this year in the comments below.
I also plan on getting back to my weekly review posts next week too. Let me know what else you’d like to see here for 2026!

This year, I am using the book “The Bible in 52 Weeks.” The last time you shared your plan, I printed out all the bookmarks and hope to do it 2027.
That’s great you have a plan! Glad you printed the bookmarks out and hope you get a chance to try it. But keep going with what you’re doing!
I’ve been awful at staying faithful to the reading, but for a while I was reading 1 to 3 chapters each day, and writing a quick narration in a little notebook for each chapter. and it helps me remember where I’m at! I need to make time again for this.
Yes! Do! Let me know if you do how it’s going. Maybe start with a goal of reading at least one chapter each day for the rest of January.
Kari, are those field books 3×5?
I’m considering this plan for 2026, I’ve been reading straight through the Bible the last many years and I think I need to change things up a bit this year.
Thank you!
Yes, they are 3×5 books. They are small and force me to really condense my summaries, which is a good challenge. I find this plan so refreshing after going through the Bible in a year for quite a few years. I hope you do!
I am going through the Bible ReCap this year. I love the idea of Grant Horner and have tried it several times. I think the modified version you are doing would work for me!
That’s great you’ve got a plan and going with it! Any time in the Word is essential, it doesn’t matter what resource we use. Great job!
Thank you for sharing this Bible study. I am doing your modified one because I want to learn more of Romans. I put my markers in sideways and then if I stop before finishing the full 10 I put the next book marker sticking out the top. This is my favorite Bible reading plan, it’s forgiving on busy days and encouraging on days I can read the full 10. No guilt to not finishing the days reading and no falling behind with days that need to be caught up! 😁
Oh that’s a great idea with the bookmarks! Yes! I absolutely love it!
