{Sunday Summary} What went on around here this week
This week I am thankful for:
- Friends arriving safely to their new home. Our friends, who are more like family, arrived at their new home in Nevada. We went camping at their property in Northern Washington for the last few year and will miss having them close-ish to us, but are thankful they arrived and are getting settled in.
- Dentists and anesthetics. Though I DREAD going to the dentist, and hate that I had to get some fillings, I’m so thankful for them and especially for the topical anesthetic before the shot anesthetic. Ugh.
- My son making homemade cream cheese rangoons. I think he’s nailed the recipe (just cream cheese, green onions, and garlic powder) and technique (wrapped up in a wonton wrapper and fried).
- Corey’s help with new farmstand signs. We had to replace our old homemade farmstand signs that didn’t make it through the rainy weather (I believe, in every new venture, to start out as low risk as possible. Which means making it as cheap as possible with a lot of DIY. So I printed the signs at home, pieced them together, and covered them with clear contact paper. Which was fine in the summer, but at the first downpour of Fall, I found out they weren’t completely waterproof.) We were able to finally update them and have them professionally printed on plastic. Hopeful that they’ll last a good long while now.
- A quick birthday text exchange with my sister-in-law. I haven’t seen her much lately and was missing her. Texting, while not ideal, is a quick way to catch up again.
- Good, deep convos with one of my nieces, who is a friend. Great discussions about the things of God and Scripture.
- Praying with a Farmstand customer. I’m thankful she shared what she was going through and asked for prayer, that made it much easier for me to pray with her in the moment. God is so good to give me moments like this where it takes just a little courage (not a huge amount) to be a Christian in the Portland, Oregon suburbs.
In case you missed it (ICYMI) last week on the blog I posted:
- A new, hopefully weekly, weekly review.
- A commonplace book quote about how Spurgeon read books.
- Some snapshots of my home bakery orders before pickup.
- And don’t forget there’s a free November prayer printable for subscribers (the password is at the bottom of the emails you get from me.)
And here’s what I was up to almost exactly four years ago, that I should consider doing again!
Here’s a couple videos I watched this week while I was baking:
- I have videos like these playing in the background off and on during the day. Cozy and mellow.
- Allie Beth Stuckey’s short review of Jen Hatmaker’s new book.
- Alisa Childers and Natasha Crain’s longer review of the same book.
- Wes Huff and John Lovell (my boys LOVE John) talk about atheist arguments against Christianity.
What stood out in my Bible reading:
I’m using Dr. Grant Horner’s 10 lists system, but modified in a few ways (more on that next week). That means I’m reading all over the Bible, which makes it amazing to see how Scripture is woven together. This week, I loved how a few of them lined up so well to focus on Christ, from the very beginning, the middle, and the very end:
John 1: Jesus is the Word, was with God, is God, is Creator, and in Him is life and the life is the light of men.
Exodus 17: God provides for His grumbly people by providing water from the rock. (which reminded me of 1 Cor 10:4 where Paul referenced this and added that Christ was the rock.)
Revelation 20: The 1,000 year reign where the saints come alive and reign with Christ.

Kari! This is genius. I loved seeing your week in one blog post! And our sons love Wes Huff so I’m gonna watch that video. Thanks for the recommendation!
Wes is so great! Hope you enjoy it!
I love all these new posts. I always enjoying reading about what you’re up to. After you mentioned sharing Commonplace quotes, the topic has been on my mind and then I came across this podcast and article that discuss Commonplacing with more of a useful spin. I’m giving it a try and thought that I would share the resource in case it intrigued anyone else.

Oh! Thanks! I love the Circe Institute! I’ll give it a listen. I’m always interested in learning more about commonplacing. Thanks!
