{Reading Notebook} Reconnected
I finally have a new entry in my reading notebook! I just finished Reconnected by Carlos Whittaker and really enjoyed it. His writing style is authentic, easy to read and even had me laughing a few times–which is odd considering it is a book about what our phones are doing to us.
I’m trying to get better about entering books in my Reading Notebook as soon as I’m done otherwise I never seem to get around to it. My star rating systems is written in the front of my reading notebook and for non-fiction it is:
1 star: Do not recommend at all.
2 stars: Okay book. At least worth a skim.
3 stars: Good book some value, but quite a few drawbacks.
4 stars: Good book, valuable, would recommend, probably would buy, if I borrowed it from the library.
5 stars: Excellent book, tons of underlines. Will buy and re-read and definitely recommend to others.

I loved going with him to the monastery in California and then to live with Amish farmers, and I liked how he laid out what he learned as the topics of the chapters. At the end of each chapter he gives practical, rubber-meets-the-road advice. I think the most convicting part was the chapter on trust and how we tend to trust Google, WebMD, social media, etc. more than God. I had to stop and really consider that one.
“In what ways have you chosen to take control of your life rather than trust God with it? Have you stopped asking God what the next steps of your business should be and instead turned to business podcasts?” (page 91)
I borrowed my copy from the library, but already bought a copy and gave it to a friend, so it sits solidly in my 4 star rating. It’s on the shorter side, and an enjoyable read, so I definitely recommend it for a good summer read.
I love this. I write quotes and narrations in a notebook, but I rarely add pictures. I should do that, just sketch the cover. I’m reading Ruthless Elimination of Hurry with my discipleship group (10th grade girls), and its been convicting and having me think about my tech interactions.
I haven’t read that book yet, but have heard a lot about it! I’d love to hear your biggest takeaway so far.
Wow, these quotes are great, thanks for sharing. I put a hold on for the book!!
Oh good! Once you get it, update me here on what you think of it! It’s a fun and inspiring read!
