{Doing the Goals} 2022 Bible Reading Plan
One of the main questions people ask me is how I, personally, study the Bible. That’s a big question to answer because about every year I switch it up.
Last year I read through the Bible along with my husband using the excellent 5 Day Bible Reading plan. I enjoyed it and that was actually one of my goals that I met last year.
I’ve also spent a year meditating through Psalm 119.
I’ve done my own Bible read-through that took three years.
And this year, after a finishing a year of reading through the Bible, I’m ready for another year of savoring the Word slowly. So I’m picking up my I Will Meditate journals again.
So far I’ve worked through the first four journals (they are laid out to take you alternately through an Old Testament book then a New Testament book).
And since all the journals are now available, I can pick any book of the Bible I want to study! Since I’m hoping to write a new Journal and Doodle study through 1 Peter, I grabbed I Will Meditate Volume Thirteen.
The great thing is, these journals are all completely stand alone so you don’t need to start with volume one. You can just grab whichever book you want to go through, or even grab the one that your pastor is going through and study alongside with the sermons! I’ve already started with 1 Peter, and I am currently enjoying not only slow speed, but super slow speed.
I was able to slowly savor these two pages over three days, working not to finish the page, but to do as much as I had time for. And what a blessing it was! This year I’m not setting any goals for how many books I’ll read and journal through, but just enjoying my time in the Bible as much as I can every day.
I figure when I review my goals once a month with you, I’ll include what I’m learning and if you’re interested maybe even go over some of my well worn previous journals. Let me know what would help/interest you and what you’d like to see!
I have almost finished reading the Bible through. Now I want to read things more slowly to understand more.
Yes! Let’s do it together this year! You can keep me updated!
Me too, this year I am starting slower, pausing more, and writing my thoughts when I feel the need. This way I am hoping that will help reinforce what I have learned.
Yes!! Slowing down, pausing, and writing! Wonderful!
I’m about halfway through the “I Will Meditate” journals. They have been SO REFRESHING! I had read through the entire Bible many times in my life, but this way is by far the best learning time for me. Slow IS better!! I recommend these journals to all my friends.
halfway through the set?!?! You’ve done more than I have! Oh how I’d love to sit down and flip through the ones you’ve completed! What a wonderful conversation that would be!
One of my intentions this year was to start my mornings with a chapter a day and journaling. I started right around Christmas and I have already started slacking on the journaling part of it, and for the past couple of days, it’s been devotionals instead of chapters. (How quickly I fell off). I realize that if I don’t journal, I don’t think about what I’ve read and therefore it doesn’t stay with me. I said out loud to the Lord yesterday, “This isn’t working. I need to find something so it stays with me…so I can meditate on the Word during the day.” Today, I got your email about your book Meditate. One chapter a day, with questions to help me think about what I’m reading. No leading or personal thoughts like devotionals. I asked the Lord which one to start. Bought it today! I am excited to start! Thank you!
YAY! Isn’t God so good?! That’s awesome! Please keep me updated on how it’s going!
This sounds like just what I need right now
I’d love to have you read the Bible slow this year with me and keep me updated on how it’s going!
I read a book last year called “The Normal Christian Life” by Watchman Nee. Right before I read it, I was about a third of the way through reading Romans really slowly + journaling. I checked and was SO SO excited to see you did have a I Will Meditate for Romans…then life happened and here we are. I want to pick back up in my study of Romans and I also would like to read through the Bible as a whole again. So far though, the first week of January has found us in bed with colds. So we are off to a super slow start. I love when you share what your plans are and how they are going, it is SUCH an encouragement. Sunshine
That would be so wonderful if you could continue with Romans! I’ll be praying for you! Get well!
I may have to consider this for next year. I’ve done chronological for six years and now I need to do cover to cover. Chronological is an amazing method, but the Bible has become fragmented to me in terms of whole books and the order of books. I need to set my mind straight. I also do BSF, so at least I get some deep study too. Happy New Year!
6 years of chronological is wonderful! Great job!
Lovely ❤️
I really like this idea of slowing down and taking our time in the Word. It also means we have more time to listen, which I am not very good at. I would love it if you would share some of your well worn journals! I think we all have so much to glean from one another. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! I think I will share some of my past journals! Hope this is a wonderful week for you!
