What I read in September
I only finished one book in September, but it was probably one of the best books I’ve ever read, Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It was infuriating and beautiful and it really made me think. Have you read it?
If you’ve read it, what did you think?
This is awesome and informative. It’s as though you connected through your writing. Nice work
I read this many years ago. You made me want to read it again! Thank you for sharing!
I’m am soooo excited that you read this book and commented on it! I read it at the beginning of the year because as an African American, I wanted to know why being called an ‘Uncle Tom’ was so negative. I had a love hate relationship with the book for the same reason I wanted to read it in the first place. It made me take a hard look at myself and the world I live in. BUT I think this book should be mandatory high school reading. I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll just say, if anyone who READ the book called me an Uncle Tom, it’d be an honor. Read the book folks.
Glad to hear from someone else who’s read the book, and thought Uncle Tom was an honorable man, and I was impressed by how he persevered when we read it last year.
Totally with you in thinking everyone should be required to read it.
I do not know if I read it as a kid but didn’t absorb anything. I am ordering the book to read because of this post. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Great book!
Jared Brock has written the story of Josiah Hansen (the inspiration for Uncle Tim’s cabin) in “The Road to Dawn.” Also a great read.
I was debating between having my kids read that and Roots, and decided to have them read Uncle Tom’s Cabin, since it was one of the contributing factors to the Civil War.
We all agreed it was an amazing book and well worth reading.
