{Weekly review} Week 44-Practice month
In November and December I always start thinking about goals for the new year and things I’d like to do or improve. I used to plan all my goals during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. But I’ve been keeping a list and adding ideas to it throughout the year so I can have a little direction and be more realistic. And now, for November and December, I’m going to practice implementing some goals (I figure between all the holidays and planning, the two months together give me about a month’s worth of days). This practice time alleviates the stress because if I mess up, forget, or miss some it doesn’t matter, because I’m just practicing!
One of my goals for 2026 is to be more regular on here. I think I can do that if I just keep it simple. I’d like to have simple weekly posts (a photo, a commonplace book quote, weekly review, Saturday with Susan, etc.) and a long form post about once a month. I want to get back to the old days of blogging before it all changed to this high pressure, money making, marketing funnel, side hustle business. I miss the early days that were relaxed and fun and a way to just share ordinary life…so I’m going to go back to that.
In 2026 I want to do a (mostly) weekly review, where I look over the top habits I’m working on and see how I did. This will evolve, I’m sure, but here’s how it looked last week:
Week Review
- Project this week: Clean out the closet in the spare room. ALMOST done!
- Books I’m Reading: We Live in Alaska, The End of Absence, Cranford
- Pages read: unsure (I’ll start tracking this week)
- School: (My friend and I are taking a free online class from Hillsdale College) Finished Lesson 2
- Memory: (Currently working on memorizing Exodus 34:7 & my goal is to work on it 5x a week): 3/5
- Exercise: (My goal is to do strength 3x a week, & cardio at least 2x) Strength: 2/3 Cardio: 1/2
- Evening routine: (Goal 7 times/7 days a week): 2/7
- Zone cleaning (goal: 5x a week): 0/5
Not a stellar week, but I didn’t know I was going to post this either! Hopefully the accountability will help.
Projects I want to complete this week:
- Get at least one garden bed cleaned up so I can plant garlic.
- See if we have any leftover bathroom paint to touch up a wall.
- Start Christmas shopping.
- Clean 5 of the areas in Zone 2 (the kitchen).

ah, yes. I should start thinking about the holidays and next year. I ought to pull out the 2025 goals and see where I’m at with them! I’m pretty faithful doing my weekly review, but mine are rather mundane. of my weekly top 3, 2 of them are school and paid work. of course there are other things to work on. like this week, I hope to get my winter clothes out. but this week, my 3rd thing is a student dinner! we will have some selection of The Professor’s students over for a home cooked meal. should be fun and, hopefully, some good conversation
Well, how did the dinner go?
ps. I did make a Tomato Powder page in my experiential foods notebook. I might try the pizza sauce on our pizzas this week!
Woot! Woot!
Excellent post! I loved ” Not a stellar week, but I didn’t know I was going to post this either! Hopefully the accountability will help.” Thanks for keeping it real!!!!
I really like the idea of “practicing” & start compiling next year’s goals in Nov & Dec. I usually am trying to finish as many goals that I didn’t get to this year. lol. I too normally would do in over the last week of the year but that is feeling tight.
I’m really leaning towards my Word of the Year to be “Intentional” & this fits in nicely. I look forward to all your posts. You are such a gifted writer & blesses me every time you are in my inbox. Blessings & Peace to you!
I should take stock of all the unfinished goals for this year and try to get to a few myself!
Thank you for posting. I love this idea of “practicing” in Nov and Dec for 2026 too. I am going to pray today about goals for 2026 and practice for the last few weeks of the year. Looking forward to your posts. Blessings, Anna
Yay! Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for this post! I like the categories you picked to break down your weekly review. Practicing for the new year is a wonderful idea!
Thank you! We’ll see how it evolves as the months go on
