{Working on Watercolor} Port Angeles, WA
Another thing I hope to make more time for in 2026 is watercolor and sketching. It seems like every year I want to do more of this, and every year it falls to the wayside. But I don’t want to just be productive and get through a list everyday. I also want to enjoy little things, even just simple moments in the backyard sketching a flower or plant.
Earlier this year a friend gave me a mini watercolor sketchbook like this one. I was saving it for a time when we were somewhere where the book would be filled with all one trip. So when we went to our big annual family camp this year (which will be our last one there ever, as the property is now sold), I took it to try to do at least one sketch a day. While I didn’t quite fill the little book, I came pretty close and it was a lot of fun to do. There’s something that burns in the memory so much deeper when I sit and sketch than just taking a picture. It kind of slows the world down and I love that.
So here’s a few pages from my tiny sketchbook from our last ever camping trip in Port Angeles, Washington.

That is great! Perhaps fill the last couple of pages with journaling to capture the place in a way others who look at the book in the future can understand the importance of the place for your family.

I’ve tried doing this at times, just having a few smallish pieces of watercolor. I can never quite do it, at least to my satisfaction. my expectations might be too high,and I just need to keep doing it. being a skill and all that.
